About the series
The LSU Global Engagement Master Class Series brings distinguished leaders in international higher education to campus for substantive, practical conversations about consequential global engagement issues. It helps LSU academic and administrative leaders, faculty, and staff understand emerging challenges, learn from other institutions, and consider how ideas can be applied at LSU.
Each 90-minute master class combines expert perspective, moderated discussion, and practical consideration of what the ideas mean for LSU.
Presented by the LSU Office of Global Engagement, in partnership with the LSU Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School.
Annual themes
Each academic year will feature a distinct theme reflecting LSU’s priorities and changes in international higher education. The theme connects the year’s sessions while preserving flexibility to address different dimensions of global engagement. Themes and topics will change from year to year.
2026-2027 Series: Building LSU's Capacity for Global Impact
The inaugural year focuses on the institutional relationships, practices, and support structures LSU needs to translate global ambition into lasting value. Across three sessions, participants will examine international graduate recruitment, the impact of global partnerships, and international student belonging and success.

Session Details:
There is no shortage of headlines highlighting the challenges impacting international graduate enrollment. However, what if some of the greatest inhibitors to enrollment are within an institution’s control? In this opening master class, Dr. David L. Di Maria, author of Strategic International Enrollment Management: Aligning Vision with Results and Achieving More with Less: Lean Management in the International Student Office, will go beyond the headlines to break down today’s shifting recruitment landscape and share proven strategies for creating opportunities when others only see challenges.
Speaker Bio:
David L. Di Maria currently serves as the Vice Provost for Global Engagement at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Working at the intersection of scholarship and practice, he is the author or editor of more than 50 publications, including six books focused on critical issues impacting international higher education. Di Maria also served as president of AIRC: The Association of International Enrollment Management, chair of NAFSA's International Education Leadership Knowledge Community and executive committee member on APLU's Commission on International Initiatives. He earned a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, where he studied international education from a P-16 perspective and focused his research on campus services for international students.
